Hawthorn was founded in 2005 by John Benner and Tyler Whitson in a garage apartment on Hawthorn Street in Birmingham, Alabama. Both men envisioned developing real estate projects uncommon to the marketplace-unique developments that would inspire. With 20 years of collective experience between them, and with a shared vision, John and Tyler's partnership has proven to be both successful and fulfilling.

Hawthorn's ongoing success prompted John and Tyler to add another member to their development team. Travis Meyer, formerly of Property One in New Orleans, Louisiana, joined Hawthorn in January 2007. In addition to the development team, John Boone, formerly of Birmingham's Coldwell Banker Eyster Properties, works with Hawthorn as a commercial real estate agent.
